Signs Of Substance
Abuse

Substance abuse is typically something
that begins simple enough. Although not everyone will try
drinking, there are many that do. Most people drink
occasionally, and it never end up becoming a problem. However,
there are some people who have an addictive personality
disorder, and these individuals may discover that they have
a drinking problem, even when they are unable to come right out
and admit it (even to themselves). Drug problems with all
different kinds of drugs, are much more common than most people
imagine. Most of these problems begin with some sort of
experimentation that leads to people becoming hooked.
Alcohol is addictive, and the different
types of drugs have varying degrees of how long it will take
for addiction to set in. Some drugs, such as heroin, take hold
very early on. This addiction can occur as early as the very
first time someone tries it and often leads to a very
dramatic case of substance abuse. People who
develop these addictions quickly are usually predisposed to
becoming addicted, and this predisposition might appear in
other forms. Some people are addicted to gambling or shopping,
and the responses in their brains are almost identical. Others
people discover that substance abuse can be a way to forget or
block out many of the bad events that have happened to them in
the past or things that are currently happening in their
lives.
You may have people in your life who you know and love that
abuse substances, and you may not have any clues that they are
doing it. Some people are just better at hiding it than others
are. However, when it's your child, your spouse, a close
friend, or a relative, it becomes something that is very much
your business. You need to know the signs of substance
abuse so that you can spot these problems early on and
try to get them the help that they need. The signs of substance
abuse can be different from person to person, but there are
tell tale signs that will appear with almost everyone that has
this problem.
The most obvious sign of substance abuse is
when an individual has a change in their basic personality.
They may start disappearing without any warning, and they may
appear more downcast and may become angry rather quickly. They
may come up with more and more excuses to go out, and then they
will lie about where they are going. people who are doing drugs
often wear long sleeve shirts to cover up their track marks, or
they may spend an inordinate amount of time by themselves. In
either case of abusing substances, their money will begin to be
in a shorter supply. Those are just some of the signs. If you
begin to notice them, find out more to see if someone you love
has this problem.
